About the club
The MABC is comprised of people, breeders and pet owners alike, dedicated to a unique and wonderful breed of dog, the Basenji.
Meetings and activities are generally in the Baltimore-Washington area.
The club's events include:
- An annual Fun Day featuring Conformation, Obedience, Lure Coursing, Jr. Showmanship and Fun Classes.
- An annual Holiday Party which includes a fund-raising auction of Basenji memorabilia and the ever popular "Mystery Gift Exchange" - see the flyer
- A puppy party in the Spring to show off the current pups and share ideas on breeding, puppy rearing and placement.
- Participation in the Canine Learning Experience, Allentown, PA, a 2-day event (1-day of educational activities and a 1-day match).
- In 2012, we will be hosting the BCOA National Specialty in Gettysburg, PA - visit the 2012 BCOA National Specialty website
- We are currently offering a Basenji ornament fundraiser to support the Nationals - see link here
The Club's major activities include:
- Education of owners and potential owners in Basenji care, behavior and characteristics.
- Publication of a newsletter giving information on Basenji care and training, upcoming events, ways of obtaining supplies, Basenji lore, brags, etc.
- Meetings which often feature special programs and always provide our members with a lively forum for exchange of 'Senji stories and brags.
- Financial support of Basenji Health Research, and the Basenji Club of America National Specialty.
- Support, advice and assistance to people having problems with their Basenjis.
- Distribution of "Do You Know of a Basenji in Trouble?" posters to animal shelters, vets, etc.
- Preparation and distribution of special education materials such as "So You Think You Want a Basenji" and a pamphlet on crate use.
- American Kennel Club and American Sighthound Field Association sanctioned Field Trials.
- Support of Basenji classes at occasional AKC All Breed and Obedience Trials.
